Bing overtakes
Yahoo!, takes aim at Google.
Microsoft's
Bing overtook Yahoo! as the
number two search engine in the
United States and worldwide
Thursday (4th June) according to
data from StatCounter as shown
in the following graph.

StatCounter shows that Bing
grabbed market share from
Google. in the
US Bing leapfrogged Yahoo to
take second place with 16.28% of
search traffic, while Yahoo!
still has 10.22%. Google still
commands the US search engine
market with 71.47%, however this
is down from 80.13% on June 1st.
This has to be very scary for
Google as the 100 million dollar
marketing push just started last
night. It remains to be seen
whether Bing can hang on to this
share and keep growing it, or if
it is just novelty combined with
the fact that Bing is being
pushed to some users browsers.
However user reviews have been
pretty much glowing for Bing and
Google seems to be facing a bit
of the too big backlash that
Microsoft has felt for years so
only time will tell.
